Philadelphia's Art
This photo was taken in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania while my family and I were traveling back to New Jersey on a train. The train was moving at a decent rate and the camera that I was using was set on a slow shutter speed so the photo is a little bit blurry. The camera also focused on the graffiti'd wall instead of the pole in the way or the tracks at the bottom of the image which I why they look a little more blurry than the wall. The sun was on its way down in the image and was not really shining on the area of the tracks. There is depth of field in this photo as well. There is a foreground, a middleground and a background. The foreground is the tracks, the middleground is the wall and the background is the sky and the buildings. The point of view I had was pretty low cause I was on a train so it was almost straight on with the wall. There was some repletion in this picture. The train tracks are repetitive going horizontally and vertically and the vertical lines also serve as leading lines for the photo as they are parallel with the wall and the skyline. I thought this was a great cityscape and motion picture because it really reflects the city of Philadelphia. From the second we got onto the train all we saw was graffiti so it really reflected the environment of the city.
Icy Art
This photo was taken on Grant ave in Somerset, MA. There are leading lines in this photo along with pattern and repition.the lining of the snow matches up with the tire tracks in the middle of the street. All these lines are parallel to each other. This was a landscape photograph that was taken while driving. I had to crop out the front of my mini van. The focus point of the photo is the street however there is a foreground and a background and you can see trees, a fence and buildings in the background. The tree gives a little texture to the photo. The photo looks as I'm driving as it looks like the photo is moving towards the end of the street.
Waterfront View
I took this picture at the Waterfront boat ramp here in Somerset, MA. I liked the picture better in black and white so I switched it over to it. On the day the picture was taken it was actually snowing outside so there wasn't really much light coming from the dark snow clouds overhead. The photo was taken on the water and has great depth to it. You can see the street lights getting smaller and smaller in the photo. The focus point of the photo is the street lights and I was standing on the sidewalk. There is some positive and negative space in the photo. The positive space is the street light while the negative space is the background of the photo such as the water. This photo also shows leading lines from the street lights. I like the mood of this photo because it is kinda dark and eerie from the darkness of the clouds and how the black and white darkens the street lamps and makes the picture acute.
Kitchen Masterpiece
This photo was taken in class within 3 mirrors pushed together. There are three kitchen utensils that are reflected in the mirrors. The focal point of the picture is the spoon which is reflected in all three of the mirrors in one way or another. There is also a contrast of colors within the image as the kitchen utensils are both white and black which are on opposite sides of the color spectrum. The mirror was put into black and white in order to make the difference between the black and white kitchen utensils look more acute. Also, the image was cropped at the bottom in order to cut out and unwanted staple that didn't flow with the kitchen instruments. I think the mood of the image is that it makes the viewer feel a little hungry as they are thinking of food when they see it.
Patterns of Life
This photo was taken in the school in the auditorium and is a really close up image of a ripped up old blanket. The image shows a great deal of texture as the blanket looks really rough and like it had been worn down. You can see at the top of the image the blanket was even ripping up a little bit. The pattern of the image is also visible as they look almost like long arrows that are upside down. Even tho the arrows seem to be pointing down I feel like the image itself seems to be go up to the top right hand corner most likely because the blankets design seem to be getting smaller and smaller leading to that corner. I feel like there is a dark mood however to this photo. If I didn't know what it was and I were to guess I would probably have guessed the face of a scarecrow. In my eyes it really has a dark mood too it which I believed it darkened by the fact that I changed the photo to black and white. I changed the photo to black and white because it seemed like the image showed a lot more detail than it did when it just had normal colors.
The Porch
Back when it was warm outside I took this photo of the side of my newly painted back porch. I liked how the sun reflected off of the brand new paint and how the design of the grooves on the wood almost acted like leading lines. It almost pushes your eyes to move from right to left on the image. I also like this image because of the texture that the paint mixed with the sun creates. It almost looks as if the porch is all slimy and wet when really that was just the paint. There is positive and negative space in this image as well. Even though most of the image is taken up by the positive space of the porch, the left side of the image shows some negative space in my driveway and my lawn. I took the shot from really close up and on zoom so that it would give the image that texture that is seen. The photo was originally on its side and a little bigger so I decided to turn it and crop out a little bush in the background because I thought it took away from the porch, which is what I was trying to photograph.
